A problem and solution story

The Problem

While performing onsite network and system assessments, Justin Sylvester ran into a common problem that was occurring across his client base. The cybersecurity skills gap was impacting effective system monitoring, allowing malicious insiders to exploit inadequate auditing to perform unauthorized activities. Enterprise solutions, though robust, often exceeded the needs of smaller systems, and responsible personnel lacked the expertise for navigating these complex tools. Microsoft’s built-in Event Viewer for Windows, while comprehensive, was cumbersome, noisy, and impractical for efficient auditing.

Solution

In 2018, Justin went to work to solve this problem. Created specifically for isolated information systems and networks, PowerStrux Windows Auditor leverages Microsoft’s built-in programming language and is designed to support point-and-click actions to simplify auditing system activity. Because the tool parses and reports on events of interest, it provides enhanced visibility and shortens the time and effort required for system auditing.

Now utilized by over 375 defense contractors and agencies nationwide, Justin’s idea to solve this problem for his client base is simplifying compliance auditing for the entire industry.

Justin has expanded the PowerStrux suite of tools to include a Linux version and Active Directory version. Keep an eye out for expanded offerings including a cloud assessment tool that allows to quickly, and accurately assess a cloud environment against the benchmarks DoD cares about.
